April 19 found the golfing Cascade Cougars at Dyersville for the Beckman Boys’ Invitational, held at the Dyersville Golf & Country Club.

Monticello copped the team title with a stellar 314, 15 strokes in front of Beckman. West Delaware was third with 346, followed by Cascade 359 and Bellevue 360.

Monticello’s Justin Recker claimed the medal position with a two-over-par 72 (35-37). West Delaware’s Elias Tibbott won a two-hole playoff for second from Beckman’s Nate Offerman, both at 78. Tibbott chipped in from 30 feet and Offerman missed his eight-foot birdie putt for the decision.

The Cougars got an 87 (45-42) from Brody Supple, good for 14th in the individual standings. They added 88 (46-42) from Gavin Manternach, 90 (43-47) from Ray Martin and 94 (43-51) from Eli Green.

Monticello’s winning total included, besides Recker, a 79 from Conner Lambert, 81 from Ty Kehoe and 82 from Bo Kramer. All six Panther players made the top 10 individual list.

Beckman added a 79 from Thomas Thier and double 86s from Nick Offerman and Sean Hinerichsen.

For West Delaware, the other three counters were Gavin Tucker (84), Will Halverson (91) and Brady Moulds (93).

Bellevue counted Jensen Wedeking (88), Nick Deppe (89), Tyler Nemmers (90) and Ashton Felderman (93).

Coach Steve Weber added, “I was happy with the way the boys played. They endured the weather which was colder than we expected. You never know what to expect in April anymore.”

In the JV race, it was Beckman 356, Monticello 362, West Delaware 399, Bellevue 433 and Cascade 446. Beckman’s Luke Harwick paced scoring with an 81. The Cougars got an 89 from Isaac Martin, 96 from Justin Roling, 114 from Jared Weber and 147 from Jacob Stoll.

Monticello’s low was an 83 from Blaine Brighton. West Delaware got a 98 from T J Soppe and Bellevue was led by Garrett Roth’s 101.

The Cougars were back in action April 22 at Hart Ridge in Manchester to face the Maquoketa Valley boys and won by a slim two strokes, 191-193. Wildcat Isaac Zirtzman claimed the medal with a two-over 37, two strokes in front of runner-up Manternach at 39.

Other counting scores for the Cougars were Ray Martin 48, and double 52’s from Supple and Roling. MV counted a 48 from Zach Digman, 49 from Jake Gellerson and 59 from Logan Johnson.
