MFL MarMac took one more step to its season-ending showdown with Beckman, Oct. 15, when the Bulldogs stopped the Cascade Cougars, 44-26, at Monona, Oct. 8.

MFL and Beckman sit atop the Class 1A District 4 standings, with the Bulldogs at 5-1, Beckman 6-0. The Cougars fall to 3-3.

And the Cougars did their best to stop the Bulldog momentum. They were tied 12-12 at halftime before MFL broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring 12 more points to lead 24-12. The Bulldogs sealed the deal with 20 fourth-quarter points while the Cougars added 14.

Bulldog Cullen McShane led rushers with 13 carries for 213 yards and three of those touchdowns.

Coach Tim Frake added, “Against good teams, we need to play more consistently. We have a lot of players doing great things but you need 11 guys on every play. Mentally and physically, we need to get tougher. We are capable of playing with any team we have on our schedule. We should be prepared for our first-round game even though we will be playing a 1-seed (we will be a 4-seed).”

Unofficial Cougar stats include: passing — Justin Roling 12-for-18 for 155 yards and two TDs, both to Luke Ruggeberg who ended with 5-for-56 yards, TD runs of 11 and nine yards; rushing — Jack Menster 14-for-102 yards and two TDs of six and 52 yards; tackles — Cade Rausch 6.5, Brennan Booth and Cass Hoffman 5.5; fumble recovery — Rausch.
