Will Hosch was a key member of three relay teams that earned a first and two second-place finishes to help Cascade’s boys’ track and field team total enough points for third in the Class B Division of the Saber Relays in DeWitt, April 12.

Tipton took the first place trophy with 157 points while Northeast was second with 130. The Cougars were third with 79 ahead of fourth-place North Cedar 64, Easton Valley 49, Anamosa 43 and Midland 28.

Hosch teamed with Jack Menster, Isaac Nava and Cole Miller to make up the 800 sprint medley team that finished first in 1:38.24.

In the 1600 medley, Hosch combined with Quinn Casey, Nava and Miller to earn second (3:54.51).

The Cougars were also second in two other relays. Hosch, Nava, Casey and Trever Finzel took second in the 4x200 (1:37.77) with Davis Trumm, Payton Feldmann, Lane Cook and Andrew Kaalberg second in the 4x800 (9:30.58).

Menster’s second-place finish in the 100-dash (11.73) led the Cougars’ line of individual finishes.

Ben Gehl was third in the 1,600, crossing the line in 5:22.66, just ahead of Lane Cook’s time of 5:22.88 for fourth.

Trumm finished third in the 800 (2:18.21) and Payton Feldmann was sixth (2:34.26).

In hurdle events, Casey was fourth in the 400 (1:02.41) and Reece Drew took fifth in the 110 hurdles (20.58).

Nathan Manternach was fifth in the 400 (1:05.04).

The Cougars’ top finishes in field events were headed by Casey clearing 5-2 to take third in the high jump. Ben Fransen earned points in both throwing events, taking fourth in the discus (127-0) and fifth in shot put (38-7.50).
