The Cascade girls’ track team took first in two relay events to help the Cougars earn an eighth-place finish in the River Valley Conference Co-Ed Meet at Anamosa, May 6.

The Cougars’ 4x400-meter relay team of Taylor Menster, Elizabeth Gibbs, Devin Simon and Claudia Noonan dominated the race crossing the finish line in 4:16.88, almost four full seconds ahead of second-place Iowa City Regina (4:20.71).

Cascade also took gold in the shuttle hurdle with Gibbs, Brianna Koppes, Libby Felton and Simon winning the race in 1:08.48.

Mid-Prairie earned the girls’ title by racking up 136 points. Northeast Goose Lake finished second with 90.50 points followed by North Cedar (69) in third, Tipton (59) fourth, Monticello (58.50) fifth, Bellevue sixth (56), Iowa City Regina seventh (55), Cascade eighth (54), Anamosa ninth (35), West Branch 10th (32), Wilton 11th (29), West Liberty 12th (25), Camanche 13th (22) and Durant 12th (20).

Gibbs, a junior, continued to have a strong showing at the meet finishing second in the 400 hurdles (1:07.07) with Simon taking third (1:08.67). Gibbs also anchored the sprint medley team of Koppes, Felton and Menster to third (1:55.17).

Menster was third in the 100 (13.18).

In the 100-hurdles, Simon was fourth (16.06) and Felton took eighth (17.46).

The Cougars also took eighth in two other events; 400 — Maddie Knapp (1:07.95) and 4x200 — Koppes, Noonan, Corinne Rea and Grace Bergfeld (1:57.20).
