Cascade’s boys’ cross country team finished ninth and the girls were 12th at the Bob Brown Cross Country Classic hosted by Iowa City Regina, Sept. 3.
This year, the Classic was a bit different than most years. There were two varsity races for the girls and two for the boys, then the results were combined and overall finishes were determined. This was done due to COVID-19 concerns so there were fewer people in each race.
“I thought we ran well in a very competitive meet as there were some top 2A and 3A teams at the invitational,” coach Bob Davidshofer said. “The boys ran better as a team and the girls were able to have a team score.”
Cole Miller led the Cougar boys with a 35th-place finish in 18:56. Adam Knepper was 41st (19:10), Carson Nauman was 44th (19:13), Jonah Manternach 83rd (20:23) and Max Nadeau 96th (20:39) for the scoring five. Also running were Davis Trumm 128th (21:27), Vic Kauder 138th (21:40), Tyler Kaalberg 158th (22:17), Dane Bertling 161st (22:24), Sean Pry 198th (23:59). Ben Boffeli 202nd (24:26) and Nate Manternach 220th (25:55).
Iowa City Liberty took home the boys’ team title with 30 points. Mount Vernon-Lisbon was second (125), Tipton third (125), Solon fourth (126), Marion fifth (130), Monticello sixth (135), Clear Creek-Amana seventh (167), Western Dubuque eighth (217), Cascade ninth (233), Calamus-Wheatland 10th (269), Iowa City Regina 11th (318), Anamosa 12th (346), Wilton 13th (374), North Cedar 14th (421).
