The Cascade cross country teams ran well at the Anamosa Invitational Sept. 26, one coach Bob Davidshofer commented was the strongest field the Cougars have competed in thus far.

The boys’ team placed seventh with four runners recording their best times of the season. Jonah Manternach improved by 10 seconds over the Center Point meet. Max Nadeau made the biggest improvement, after missing a week due to the flu, finishing 65th (20:12).

Cole Miller, Adam Knepper, Vic Kauder and Dane Bertling recorded their fastest times of the year in the boys’ race. Miller finished 25th (18:04), Knepper 27th (18:08), Carson Nauman 40th (18:46), Manternach 59th (19:54), Bertling 60th (19:57), Kauder 64th (20:11).

Tyler Kaalberg led the junior varsity boys team finishing 26th with a time of 20:36. He was followed by Sean Pry 66th (22:57), Nate Manternach 77th (24:34) and Peter Noonan 88th (29:00).

Solon took home the boys’ varsity team title with 51 points, followed by South Winneshiek (84), Tipton (98), CR Jefferson (103), Monticello (126), Davenport Assumption (130), Cascade (193), Camanche (199), Anamosa (206), North Linn (272), Isaac Newton Christian (283), Springville-CC (349) and Midland (364).

In the girls’ varsity division, the team finished 10th. Emma Ostwinkle ran another strong race and finished in the top 10, as she has at all but one of their meets, with a time of 21:03 for 10th place.

Anna Conlin continued to be the Cougars’ second counter, finishing 46th (23:54). Lilly Topping, Grace Bower and Maddie Knapp recorded their best times of the year. Topping finished 50th (25:53), Bower 52nd (26:30) and Knapp 64th (29:13).

The Solon girls team also took home first place (41), followed by Davenport Assumption (69), South Winneshiek (94), Tipton (96), Monticello (124), Prince of Peace (146) North Linn (178), Anamosa (180) CR Jefferson (208), Cascade (220).

Hallie Kelchen continues to be one of the top runners in the junior high division finishing third with a time of 13:00.

For the boys, Andrew Kaalberg took 22nd (13:53), Trenton Topping 35th (14:52) and Eli Merfeld 43rd (15:29).
