Cascade earned a win Oct. 4 as the Cougars welcomed the Northeast Rebels to James P. O’Meara Field. Both teams came into this game with only one win on the season, but Cascade notched their second with a 36-18 victory.
Senior running back Colby Holmes got the game started for the Cougars with a rushing touchdown right up the middle with 6:56 remaining in the first quarter. He had a big night as he finished with 25 carries, 179 yards and a touchdown.
After a three-and-out stop on defense, Cascade got the ball back and sophomore Tanner Simon scampered into the end zone for six more points. Cascade missed the extra point, but took a 13-0 lead.
Northeast got the second quarter started with a rushing touchdown by senior Ty Schmidt. With 5:15 to go, Cascade led 13-6.
The Cougars didn’t end the half quietly, however, as senior Jose Nava caught a tipped pass in the end zone for a touchdown. After an extra point, Cascade took a 20-6 lead into the half.
Lightning struck again as Caden Reinke kicked a field goal to extend their lead. That was followed up by another Simon touchdown, this time with an interception right before the end of the third quarter. Cascade took a 29-6 lead into the fourth.
Simon finished his night with both an offensive touchdown and defensive touchdown. Senior Carter Green also found the end zone late in the game.
Jackson McAleer completed 8-of-14 passes for 124 yards and Justin Roling completed 1-of-2 for eight yards. Their receivers were Carter Green 6-for-104 and a touchdown, Nava 2-for-22 and a touchdown and Alex Aitchision 1-for-6.
Holmes led the Cougars on the ground with 25 carries for 179 yards and one touchdown. Simon had 1-for-32 and two touchdowns; Ben Miller 2-for-8, Justin Roling 2-for-4 and Jackson McAleer 3-for-2.
Miller led the defense with 5.5 tackles. Simon had five; Nava and Ted Weber. 4.5; Aitchison four; Isaac Delarosa 3.5; Cael McDermott three; Holmes 2.5; Nate McDermott two; Kaleb Topping 1.5; Jack Menster, Luke Ruggeberg, Zach Green and Cody Kremer one; Brady Graff and McAleer 0.5.
Simon had a kickoff return for 40 yards. Nava had 1-for-16 and Carson Staner 1-for-5. Simon had a punt return for three yards.
Reinke had seven kickoffs for 339 yards. McAleer had one punt for 22 yards.
Simon had one interception returned 70 yards. Nava had one interception.
