In a game played in Dubuque, the Aquin seventh-grade boys’ basketball team eased to a 39-19 win over Mazzuchelli Gold, Feb. 2.
They built the lead in the first frame, 12-5 and cemented it by holding Mazzuchelli to zero second-quarter points, up 20-5 at the break.
Leo Noonan paced the team with 15, Cody Lynch hit 12 (one trey), Kale Noonan six (two), Cole McCarthy, Aaron Trumm and Chase King two. Other stats were: rebounds — Lynch and Leo Noonan eight, King and McCarthy two, Trumm, Kale Noonan and Charlie Simon one; steals — Leo and Kale Noonan and King four, McCarthy and Lynch two, Simon one; assists — King three, Lynch two, Leo and Kale Noonan one.
Aquin eighth grade falls to Mazzuchelli Gold
A scoreless second quarter doomed the Aquin eighth-grade boys to a 35-8 deficit at the half, one that grew to a 57-26 loss at Mazzuchelli Gold Feb. 2.
It was a relatively manageable deficit after a quarter, 17-8, but following the second frame, the game was out of reach.
Elijah Casey led totals with 13 (one three). Pete Ludwig added six, Bryce Carroll four, Kaiden Pfab two and Luke Schockemoehl one. Other stats were: rebounds — Casey and Schockemoehl four, Ludwig three, Pfab two, Jackson Decker and Charlie Simon one; blocks — Schockemoehl one; steals — Carroll two, Pfab, Casey and Ludwig one; assists — Ludwig and Schockemoehl two.
