Cascade opened its indoor boys’ track and field season with a strong showing at a six-team event hosted by Hempstead, at the University of Dubuque, March 10. Along with Hempstead, Dubuque Senior, Wahlert Catholic, Western Dubuque, Beckman Catholic and Cascade competed.
“Overall, I was very pleased with the guys’ effort and excitement they showed in their first competition this season,” said coach Chris Curry. “It’s always fun to be able to compete against other schools for the first time and see where we are as a team.”
Quinn Casey led the way for the Cougars, winning the high jump with a leap of 6-0 and taking third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds.
Lane Cook and Adam Knepper were fifth and sixth in the 1,600, with Cook finishing in 5:07.39 and Knepper 5:07.42. Both teamed with Andrew Kaalberg and Nathan Manternach to finish third in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:20.11.
Individually, Conrad Carter was fifth in the 800 (2:28.78) and seventh in the 400 (1:03.72), Trevor Finzel sixth in the 200 (25.78), Jack Menster eighth at 55 (6.91)and Nate Milum eighth in the 400 (1:08.07).
Luka Rickels, Menster, Casey and Finzel ran to fifth in the 4x200 relay (1:39.67), the shuttle hurdle relay team of Brody Gravel, Brody Otting, Riley Koppes and Bradley Dolphin was fifth (46.06) and Rickels, Casey, Will Hosch and Finzel took eighth in the 4x400 (3:54.31).
“I am excited to see what this group of guys can do moving forward,” Curry said.
