In the final game of the annual Cascade Girls Basketball Jamboree Nov. 21, the Cougars escaped a fired-up Dubuque Senior squad, 18-14.

A slim three-point lead, 9-6, in the first quarter was just about enough to give the Cougars the win. They slipped in a 9-8 scoring advantage in the final frame.

Nicole McDermott led totals with six, followed by Ally Hoffman and Abby Welter with five, Alyssa Lux two.

Coach Mike Sconsa added, “I was pleased with our effort and hustle. We did a lot of things well but we also saw what we need to continue to improve upon: finishing and taking care of the ball. It was a great experience for our players and now it is time to get better as the season officially starts Tuesday night (Nov. 26).”

In other games played that night, Tipton topped Edgewood-Colesburg 21-10, Bellevue walked over Midland 31-8, North Linn ran past Maquoketa 43-28, and Monticello edged Springville, 34-32.
