Thirteen members of the Almost Famous Dance and Gymnastics competition gymnastics team qualified for the USTA National Competition after excelling at the USTA State Meet in Ames April 28.
Abbey Kramer led the Almost Famous team by earning a state championship.
Whitney Long and Cameron Vargason were both state runner-ups.
Additional overall place finishes included: third — Kylie Meeks; sixth — Emma Brockhohn and Kennedy Ward; eighth — Morgan Ward and Brooklynn Meyer; 10th — Isla Stonekinkg; 13th — Alaina Mead and Emerlynn Wright; 15th — Reece Reitzler and Emma Kramer. All athletes who placed in the top-15 overall advanced to the national competition.
Flight placements included: first — Abbey Kramer; second — Meeks, Brockhohn and Meyer; fourth — Kennedy Ward and Morgan Ward; fifth — Stoneking and Reitzler; sixth — Mead, Wright and Emma Kramer; seventh — Tessa Intorf.
USTA Nationals will be contested in Charleston, W.V., June 17-22.
Almost Famous is under the direction of Amanda Hackney, Melissa Ehrisman with the assistance of Andrea Davis and Kaitlyn Hunt.
