Playing April 22 at Hart Ridge in Manchester, the Cascade girls’ golf team won 214-251, in a meet that saw the Maquoketa Valley field its first full team of the year.
Sam Frasher claimed the runner-up medal spot with a 49, three strokes back of MV’s Madeline Gellerson who shot a season-low 46.
Other Cougar counters included double 54s from Megan Smith and Anna Manternach and one of two 57s, from Emily Conlin and McKenna Gehl. Ellie Noonan shot a non-counting 60.
For Maquoketa Valley, besides Gellerson, counting scores were 58 from Jordyn LeGassick, 70 from Kaela Clemen and 77 from Mianna Gosche.
Coach Jeff Morreim said, “This was another team win for us and the girls played well.”
The Cougars were part of a 10-team Invitational at Maquoketa April 21 and came in fourth with 447, trailing Lisbon 425, DeWitt 435 and Beckman 446. Fifth went to North Cedar 460, followed by Northeast 466, Regina 514 and Maquoketa 576. Marquette and Easton Valley did not field full teams.
Noonan paced the Cougars with 95, followed by Manternach at 112, Conlin at 118, Frasher and Gehl 122, Smith 128.
Morreim added, “We moved Ellie onto the varsity for this event, our first 18-hole test of the year and it proved to be a great move. She was the meet medalist, the first time ever.
“The conditions during the day were not good with the cold temperatures and wind. It was a difficult day to play, but the girls handled the conditions very well, getting that fourth-place finish.”
