Anne Speck, 71, of Peoria, Ill. died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2021 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria. Msgr. Brian Brownsey and Fr. Charles Klamut officiated.

Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021 at St. Mark’s with recitation of the Rosary at 5:45 p.m. Additional visitation was held from 10:30-11a.m. Friday morning before mass.

Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria, Ill.

Anne was born March 4, 1949 in Peoria, Ill. to Donald F. and Lucille A. (Ruhaak) Scott. She married Gregory Speck Dec. 15, 1973 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria.

Anne worked as an elementary teacher and a reading specialist in a number of schools. She was an avid reader who delighted in helping children learn the magic of books. Anne was also a history buff and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by one daughter Katie (James) Knepper of Cascade and two sons, Andrew (Rita) Speck and Timothy (Rebecca) Speck, both of Peoria. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Susan Scott and Margaret Scott of Peoria.

Anne’s parents preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Catholic School, which she attended and where she taught (711 N. Underhill, Peoria, IL 61606), or a charity of the donor’s choice.
