Alan L. Kimmich, 68, of Cascade, passed away, Friday, July 15, 2022, at his home in Cascade, after a four-year courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation was 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a prayer service was held at 3:30 p.m.
Services were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Cascade, with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Eucharistic Minister was Jean Brackemyer. Lectors were Dean Lehman and Jacob Hosch. Petitions were read by Denny Brackemyer. Giftbearers were Alan’s grandchildren: George, Etta, Corrin, Ailey, Barrett, Wilson, Brigham, Theo and Ivy. Placing the pall were Charlene Kimmich, Brian Kimmich, Brent Kimmich and Branden Kimmich. Casketbearers were George Kimmich, Rick Schilling, Tyler Hosch, Jay Lehman, Chad Lehman, Eric Lehman, Trent DeNeve and Tick Roling. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Alan was born Oct. 22, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, son of George and Nae Dean (Simpson) Kimmich. He graduated from Western Dubuque High School in Epworth. On Nov. 25, 1972, he was united in marriage to Charlene Lehman at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Epworth.
Alan operated the DX Station and was a welder at the former Merl’s Welding. He was employed at Delaney’s Auto and Ag in Cascade as a farm machinery mechanic, until his retirement.
He had many hobbies and interests, was a true craftsman and loved doing puzzles, traveling, gardening, bird watching, fishing, morel hunting and watching westerns. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Alan is survived by his wife, Charlene Kimmich of Cascade; three sons, Brian (Renee) Kimmich of Waterloo, Brent (Katie) Kimmich of Cedar Rapids, and Branden (Kelly) Kimmich of Janesville; nine grandchildren: George, Etta, Corrin, Ailey, Barrett, Wilson, Brigham, Theo and Ivy; four sisters: Becky (Gene) DeNeve of Blairstown, Connie (Bob) Meiers of Cedar Rapids, Vicki (John) Schilling of Rickardsville, and Deb Yates of Cedar Rapids; and brothers- and sisters-in-law: Dan (Sharon) Lehman of Farley, Dean (Leona) Lehman of Epworth and Cheryl (Roger) Hosch of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Lehman; a nephew, Lanny DeNeve and a great-nephew, Shaun O’Brien.
The family would like to thank Dr. Engelman and staff at MercyOne Cancer Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their excellent care, especially Alisa and Amber, as well as all the family and friends that helped him on his journey.
