Following a decision at the state level that gives ATVs/UTVs more unfettered access to public roadways as of July 1, there has been some confusion as to what has changed.

While the roughly five-page new state law, HF 2130, is worth the read for any UTV operator, there are several noteworthy changes that have gone into effect: the maximum speed limit for UTVs is now 35 mph on all roads; UTVs may use undivided state highways as a most direct route to the nearest UTV park or trail, secondary road, city street or residence; a registered UTV may operate on any unpaved, gravel road unless it is marked as under construction, as a detour or closed; UTVs can be barred from using roads during special events and cities may still exert local control over UTV operations within city limits.
