Cascade’s girls track and field team hosted a small meet May 6 to prepare for the state-qualifying meet May 9 (see story on page 1B). The Cougars played hosts to Beckman, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn and Northeast in a meet that allowed coaches a chance to help finalize their lineups for the state-qualifier.
The Cougars led the field in the unscored meet, finishing first in seven events.
Cascade won three individual events: 100-meter hurdles — Jordan Simon (16.23); 400-hurdles — Elizabeth Gibbs (1:10.22); and 1,500 — Madeline Rhomberg (5:04.38).
Cascade grabbed four relay wins: 4x100 — Molly McElmeel, Libby Felton, Maddie Knapp and Jordan Simon (52.35); 4x200 — McElmeel, Rachel Trumm, Knapp and Gibbs (1:51.14); 4x800 — Marie Knepper, Madeline Rhomberg, Madison Kelchen and Abby Welter (10:53.43); and sprint medley — McElmeel, Knapp, Trumm and Welter (1:57.09).
The team finished second in five events: long jump — Sophie Callahan (14-3); 400-hurdles — Rachel Rhomberg (1:14.03); 1,500 — Kelchen (5:36.30); 4x400 — Trumm, Knepper, Harley Bradtke and Alexis Shaffer (4:23.94); shuttle hurdle relay — Mae Felton, Rachel Rhomberg, Gibbs and Simon (1:08.2).
Third-place finishes were recorded by the Cougars in five events: high jump — Anna McDermott (4-8); 100-hurdles — Felton (17.56); 400-hurdles — Shaffer (1:16.97); 800 — Bradtke (2:46.34); and 1,500 — Shannon Morris (6:16.03).
Libby Felton was fourth in the 100 (13.43). Placing fifth were: Alexis Shaffer (long jump, 14-1.5); Felton (100-hurdles, 18.07); and Maci Boffeli (800, 2:59.45).
Skylar Pachtinger was sixth in the long jump (14-1.5) and eighth in the 100 (14.08).
Sydney Weber was sixth in the discus (67-5) and Morris was seventh (66-4).
Julia Ludwig placed seventh in the 100 (14.04) and 100-hurdles (18.66).
