Cecelia M. “Cis” Meloy, 94, of Cascade, passed away surrounded by her family Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade.

Friends and relatives of Cis called from 4-8 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service was held at 5 p.m.

Services for Cis were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Garryowen, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Lectors were Tanya Hayden and Erin Moser. Eucharistic Ministers were Amy Kluesner and Jean Conrad. Giftbearers were Lucas Hayden, Owen Hayden and Ben Moser. Placing of the Pall was done by Peggy McDermott, David Meloy and Mark Meloy. Burial was held in St. Patrick Cemetery in Garryowen.

Casketbearers were Kevin Meloy, Robert Meloy, Brian McDermott, Tracy Knepper, Kevin Noonan and Steven Noonan.

Cis was born Sept. 30, 1924 in Bernard, daughter of Mike D. and Marjorie (O’Brien) Noonan. She received her education in rural Jackson County schools and St. Martin’s High School in Cascade. She was a school teacher in Dubuque and Jackson County schools. She had a keen wit and was an avid euchre player for many years. She was proud of her Irish heritage and greatly enjoyed a trip to Ireland. She was always interested in the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved hearing from them. She kept their photos nearby.

On Sept. 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Walter F. Meloy at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Garryowen. The couple farmed for many years near Bernard. He preceded her in death March 18, 2002.

She was a member of St. Patrick Parish and the St. Patrick’s Rosary Society in Garryowen.

She is survived by three children, Peggy (Ron) McDermott, of Coal Valley, Ill., David (Ruthanne) Meloy, of Muscatine, and Mark (Jeanne) Meloy, of Dubuque; nine grandchildren, Tanya, Erin, Brian, Lea, Liza, Rob, Marissa, Kevin and Shannon; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Michael (Jeanne) Noonan, of Peosta, and Patrick Noonan, of Cascade; two sisters-in-law, Mary Noonan, of Cascade, and Shirley Noonan, of Carmichael, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mary Margaret Noonan and Frances T. Noonan; three brothers, Robert M. Noonan, John “Oz” Noonan and Daniel Noonan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Noonan and Nancy Noonan.

A Cecilia M. Meloy memorial fund has been established.
