Several area nonprofits, as well as the Cascade and Bernard communities, hope to benefit from Great Give Day, which is happening Thursday, May 9.

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque established Great Give Day — a 24-hour, online giving event to celebrate and support area nonprofits and build a stronger community.

The event is open to all nonprofits with endowment funds at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque or one of its affiliate locations.

Community members are invited to visit to make an online donation of $10 or more to their favorite nonprofit. Gifts can be made May 9 or scheduled any time before that date, with scheduled gifts being processed on Great Give Day. All gifts will go directly to the nonprofits, and all donations must be made online with a credit/debit card or banking account.

Great Give Day donations are 100% tax-deductible, and gifts of $50 or more to nonprofits directing donations to their endowment funds are also eligible for the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax credit.

The participating nonprofits in the Cascade/Bernard area are:

• Bernard Community Fire Service Endowment Fund

• Cascade Wave of the Future

• Aquin Catholic Elementary School Endowment Fund

• Cascade FFA Alumni Association Endowment Fund

• Cascade Community Fund for ESOL/HSED Classes

Wendy Sweeney is the nonprofit partnership coordinator for the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. She said of the 24-hour event, “The community really comes together on Great Give Day, showcasing Northeast Iowa’s spirit of giving, raising awareness about local nonprofits and celebrating the collective effort it takes to make our region great.”
